Books I Like

Here are some of my recent favorites. But first, my reading habits and advice:

  • Read every day. Remove some distraction that frees up 30 minutes (hello, social media!) and find time.

  • I usually read more than one book at a time from different genres. This gives me a chance to reflect on a book when I’m not reading it.

  • Embrace your interests. Reading top-shelf prose is important, but I’m also not above reading the latest Van Halen biography.

  • Mix long form with short form.

  • The Modern Library Association’s Top 100 list is always useful for the classics.

Books on Writing

Writers don’t become great by reading books about writing. They read good writing. So when you have free time, read good writing, not books about writing. Still, I’ve found these style books incredibly useful as reference guides.
