About Ben Opipari
Ben Opipari is the founder of Persuasive Matters, where he delivers writing programs and coaching to law firms around the world to help them perfect the art of clear and direct writing. From 2006 to 2011, Ben was the writing instructor at Howrey LLP, a worldwide litigation firm. At Howrey he developed and implemented a writing curriculum for the firm’s 700 attorneys through programs and coaching. Before coming to Howrey, Ben was the director of the writing center at Colgate University, where he also taught in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric. He has been an educator for over twenty years (except for a short stint in radio) on the middle school, high school, college, and corporate levels. And all this time, Ben has been a coach in some form: he was also a head high school track coach for ten years, guiding ten All-Americans and numerous state champions.
Ben holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from American University and a Ph.D. in English Language and Literature from The Catholic University of America. He remains active as a writer, publishing in both the legal writing field and his doctorate field. He is also a contributor to both the health and music sections of the Washington Post. And from 2002 to 2010, he was a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in both upstate New York and Montgomery County, Maryland.
As a side project, since 2010 Ben has run the popular music website Songwriters on Process, featuring nothing but interviews with over 150 songwriters about their creative process.
Ben lives in the Washington, DC area with his wife and four young children. He can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
